Data Landscape Migration to Azure
The client sought to modernise its current on-premises ETL landscape to a cloud infrastructure on Azure. Target data was available across SQL Server databases, SAP BW/4 HANA, XML files from POS machines, and CSV files from back office systems. The engagement also included replacing existing BI and analytics visualisation tools with Power BI as the consolidated visualisation layer.
Identifying the unique obstacles that hinder progress and uncovering the root causes behind complex business problems.
Reduction of SAP BW/4 HANA licence costs while maintaining continuity of reporting and analytics capabilities was a key business driver for the migration.
Performance limitations of ad hoc reports and the restricted mobile capabilities of existing BI tools were impacting business user experience and productivity.
Maintaining the on-premises data architecture in parallel during migration required careful planning to avoid disruptions to ongoing business operations.
Complexity in creating advanced dashboards and reports in the legacy BI platforms — including limited mobile app performance — created a need for migration to a more capable BI platform.
Ensuring all existing business logic, auditing mechanisms, and data validation rules were accurately replicated and preserved during the migration to the new Azure-based landscape.
Developing strategic, innovative solutions designed to address each challenge with precision, ensuring measurable impact and long-term success.
Conducted assessment and discovery workshops to identify business insights and data requirements across existing BI and analytics dashboards.
Developed a security-baselined Azure Landing Zone and implemented security controls at different stages of the data flow to ensure end-to-end data protection.
Created a migration layer to transfer all historical data from SQL Server to Azure Synapse, and built an ingestion layer to load XML and CSV files from POS and back office systems.
Developed transformation logic to load data into Azure Data Warehouse while keeping the current schema intact, ensuring business continuity throughout the migration.
Orchestrated end-to-end data flow on a nightly periodic batch schedule, with an auditing mechanism to log failures and augment business rule validations across all stages.
Delivering tangible results that drive operational efficiency, data trust, and sustained business value for the organisation.
A robust, cloud-based ETL data landscape replaced the on-premises infrastructure, improving scalability, reliability, and maintainability of data pipelines.
Migration of existing data warehouse historical data to the Azure layer ensured full continuity of reporting with no loss of historical context.
Reduction of legacy BI licence costs was achieved through successful migration to the Azure-based platform.
Power BI delivered more advanced dashboard capabilities and a significantly improved mobile app experience compared to the legacy visualisation tools.
End-to-end data flow orchestration with automated batch scheduling and built-in auditing mechanisms ensured reliable, consistent data delivery across all reporting and analytics workloads on Azure.
